Valentine's Day - Yes or No?

Valentine's Day is the day of the year that most people have some opinion about: Some people can't hide all the joy and excitement while some are hiding all the loneliness and sorrow they feel. And of course, for some people - including me - it's just a day among others.

I like to think Valentine's Day as an extra possibility to say or do something nice to those who I adore and those who are close to my heart. Without having too much pressure and high hopes of amazing and spectacular dates, Valentine's Day stays as a nice day to celebrate our closest ones: partners, friends or family.

But I'm absolutely not against Valentine's Day and celebrating love: If you're in a relationship, enjoy the day to the fullest and don't be afraid to show the love you have for each other. If you want to celebrate the day with your best friends, go ahead and tell them how amazing they are. And if you spend the day alone: celebrate yourself, create a nice day doing things you enjoy the most and don't feel sad. After all Valentine's Day is just one day and your happiness is not dependent on it.

I hope everyone is having a happy Valentine's Day - however or whomever you spend it with!

- Jenni

  2. I have mixed feelings about Valentine’s Day! I love that it’s a day to celebrate love however I can’t help but think that this should be celebrated all the time not just when society tells us too 💗

    1. You're right. It can also put up so much pressure on people who are lonely. But I hope the main point for everyone is just to add some extra love to our lives on Valentine's Day - if we feel like it :).

  3. I LOVE Valentines Day! My love and I show love to each other every single day, but Valentines Day just gives us an excuse to be extra mushy and be romantic to each other. But I also take advantage of the day to show a lot of love to my best friends and my mom! It’s a beautiful day in my opinion!

We just went on a super short hike and ate good food at home - perfect laid-back way to finish the day. :)

  7. Cute, accurate and simple read.

I agree with you that it's just another day, but in addition we may use it as an excuse to go out to eat. An excuse to eat this chocolate heart in one sitting and an excuse to do something out of the ordinary.

Happy Valentine's Day to you my friend, anything exciting going on today?

    1. Hey girl, happy Valentine's Day to you too! Valentine's Day as an excuse to eat well - I like your thinking! I'm going to eat dinner with my boyfriend when he arrives home from work. I don't know if he has planned something else for us :). How is your day going?

  8. Valentine’s Day is a hit or a miss for me! If I’m single, I hate it. But if I’m taken I hate it and like it. It depends. This year I didn’t do anything as I was in a flight. To me it’s mlre of a commercialized thing, my fiancé and I have stopped buying cards and gifts for each other. It’s great for newer couples though, to celebrate the love :)!
Oh as of course cheap chocolate on the 15th!! Woo

    1. That's so true that it's a perfect day for newer couples! Me and my boyfriend don't buy gifts for each other but we like to watch a movie or eat good dinner together. But that's something we do all the time so it's nothing special :).

  12. I used to think of Valentine's day as a consumerist celebration, but I believe you're right, it should be thought of as a day to bring in some extra kindness and love to those we love and/or to ourselves!

    1. Nice to hear! I think it's always a great idea to spread kindness and positive spirit. Also kind words don't cost anything but can light up someone's whole day.

  13. The chocolate and gifting side of Valentines should never be overplayed, I think, but I like to think of it as an excuse for a busy couple to take time out together. So I like the idea of it but people place a lot of emphasis when it doesn't matter that much.

  14. I must admit I am not very keen on V-day, I think because in Poland this holiday has become too commercial and the major thing is how expensive gift you received and you got ( you have to show all of it at work). Secondly, here this is popular mostly among teens... We have V-day for not so long time, I think it is been about only twenty years and for many people is not easy to get the profound point of this day. So this is not about love and relationship, but GIFTS are most important. And my friend does not like V-day, ha ha :)

    1. That's exactly what I hate about any commercial holidays. I love the idea of being extra polite, friendly and kind on Valentine's Day but buying too expensive gifts and bragging about them is really just embarrassing.

  15. Amen Jenni! Like I could not agree more...Valentine's really is just another day, every day should be filled with love but I do understand and like the idea of just going the extra mile to show more appreciation. You're right about it being extended to all loves ones and not just set on a partner :)
